RP/WEBINTERNET and INTRANET access to mainframe applicationsA growing number of firms are utilizing the Internet or intranets to provide access to both tactical and strategic systems.Although this strategy has proven to deliver significant payoffs in time and in the creation of competitive advantage, "Web-enabling" systems often requires major re-engineering work. This is particularly true when the data required for the applications resides in mainframe databases and files. Aonix's RP/Web solves this problem. RP/Web allows you to build Web-enabled applications without costly re-engineering by using a mainframe-based Web server. The server provides easy access to existing applications and data through standard Web browsers, such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. RP/Web takes advantage of inexpensive, low-maintenance global networking (TCP/IP) via either the Internet of "behind-the-firewall" internal intranets. Its applications are available through a familiar graphical interface on all major client platforms including PCs, Macintosh and UNIX workstations. RP/Web is the ideal way to extend mainframe applications to a wide range of users at a very low cost. Access to Legacy DataIn a traditional Web application, providing access to mainframe data through a UNIX or Windows server is difficult. It requires moving the application, copying the data from the mainframe, or implementing a link between the UNIX server and the host data. RP/Web allows you to access data more easily because :- Putting a Web server on the mainframe allows the passing (or updating) of mainframe data directly. - Web transactions can reference data in place, without requiring that it be duplicated. - All existing application functions, including data updates, data sharing with other systems and batch reporting, continue to function unchanged.
